Letter to the Beloved

Jiwoo Park

Don’t you dare peel your skin off

For we wish to see you flee in flounder

Lock up your tongues in caskets, sink it underwater

Sink it underwater, your piercing shriek of pain

Only the ripples of anguish shall reach home

Peking ducks will bid you a goodbye

On the dock

Suck your yellow blood out

Rip the curses off of your black hair

The trails will lead us out of disaster

From the recipe which you have written

Resilience is a sin in our nation

As silence is what feeds us

Cover up your bruises with badges of honor

You would rather be hated than dead.

Our beloved chinks and gooks,

Bear with us

Until we move onto another.

Probably never

We’ve been here all along.
